TIA AND THE A-MAZE-ING MIRRORS (Self Image / Body Image)- It’s the annual Tiki Island Festival! Kathy attends with several of her classmates but finds out quickly that she can’t ride many of the big kid rides because she isn’t tall enough. The Neon Tikis stay with her because they are too big to ride. But even with the Tikis by her side, she becomes upset when Ethan makes fun of her for being short. Kathy’s self image is at a all-time low.
Soon the Ku Tikis crash the festivities and put several of the kids in danger when they destroy some wiring and remove a critical lever from one of the “big kid” rides. With the Neon Tikis needing help, Kathy steps up and starts an adventure of proving there’s way more to her than just her “size.”
How will the Tikis get the lever back and save the kids from broken down ride? Will Kathy’s short stature actually be able to help repair the ride? Self Image. We all have one!
(Parents / Teachers / Guardians– Almost every child (and many adults too) have had some issue about themselves that they might change if they could. This story helps to show why we’re all perfect “in our own ways.” The subject of Tia and the A-Maze-Ing Mirrors, a body image, or self image book was actually suggested by two separate “media center” teachers, in two different elementary schools (Florida / Indiana). We hope this book helps “start the conversation” about how we are ok just as we are.)
